Welcome to the Cogenhoe & Whiston Heritage Society

Membership of the society is open to anyone who shares our aims and costs £15 per year (£25 double), see here.

The Society’s objective is to study, record and stimulate interest in the history and heritage of the two villages situated between the A45 and the A428 roads a few miles east of Northampton,

 Monthly open meetings are held with interesting and engaging speakers on our heritage and the society has a number of members who also give talks on subjects of interest. See programme. Meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month at Cogenhoe Village Hall, York Avenue, Cogenhoe NN7 1NB starting at 7.30pm.

 Entry to open meetings is free for members and £5 for non-members.

Members also receive our monthly magazine ‘Our Heritage Matters’. You will find the front and contents pages here.

The Hallaton Helmet
A Conquest Period Mystery

The Roman cavalry helmet from the Hallaton Treasure – a collection of stunning finds buried at an Iron Age ritual site in Leicestershire – has recently been recreated in the form of two contrasting replicas.
 Helen Sharp, Curator (Archaeology) at Leicestershire County Council Museums will discuss the recent project.

The Society has placed green plaques on buildings of note in Cogenhoe.  We hope you enjoy our trail.

The project was awarded ‘Best Special Project - Highly Commended’ in the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum Awards 2019.
